177 or 185 for my new Soul Riders

I'm a 5'9" 195 reasonably fit solid level 7 skier. I split my time on groomers, bumps, trees and glades equally. I currently have 180 Bushwackers and 185 Nordica Unleashed Hells which are 113 underfoot.

I really love them both and will keep them although the BWs are starting to get beat up so the new SRs will probably be my daily driver. I don't have any issue with the 185 Unleashed Hells in the trees bumps or groomers. In fact I think they are a blast in the bumps and trees so length is not by itself an issue.

I demoed 177 Soul Riders (185 was not available) and I loved them, they were great on bumps and groomers. My question is, since I know I really like the 177 should I go with that size or take a chance that the 185 will be fundamentally the same for me with just a tad more stability at groomer higher speeds?

Thanks.

Good luck finding them in either length before next season! smile.gif

Go with the 177s.  Keep it fun.  Plus you already know the answer.  You demo'd them.  You liked them.  It worked.

From my experience, I think that it is more than enough ski.  I am 5"11, 185#, rode a friend's 177 and I thought that they were great at that length.  Not a groomer zoomer, but stable enough.  My buddy is roughly the same size, strong skier and 177 is more than enough him.

In your case, you already have a 113mm for powder days - so there is no real reason to upsize as this is your non-powder day option.  If you want to optimize for stability on groomers, you are picking the wrong ski.  The SR is awesome - have fun with it.
