So this was my girlfriends first season My goal was to get her up to speed to do our week long ski trip next year in 1 season . I got her season rentals they were 130 Fischer FX Fires . In about 10 times going she is able to do all the blues at whiteface NY , all the blues at killington VT . She isn't a balls to the wall gs skier but more like controlled turns when she goes on a black that's too steep . She can't really do moguls well and in afraid to take her in any serious glades .
She is kind of weak but working on getting stronger (she can do like 4 challenging runs in a row then needs to chill out on a green ). 5'7" @ 117 lbs. she is trying really hard at the gym to get stronger to be a better skier & to not suck at surfing (idk about this one yet).
Seeing as I have never been out west yet I am not sure if she can get a good trip out of sky in Montana whistler or vail (those are our 3 picks for next year we didn't go this year because my best friend tore his acl ). I have never been out west so I can't tell if it would be completely out of her league or what . I was thinking of doing the 9-noon with the guys in the back country and then dicking around with her from 1pm - close . Would this work or are even the beginner trails there in their own league ?
I was also thinking a decent all mountain ski for her next year would be like the volkl aura ? That's the female version of the mantra I believe . Any other good skis we do 85% groomers and packed glades on the east coast but I don't want to get her a separate powder ski (Catskils are the weekend trips with whiteface killington & tremblant & sugarloaf thrown in there for the 3+ day weekend trips) for our trip out west.
