2013 Nordica FA EDT 84 or 2014 RTM 84

Hi,

I am looking to buy either one of those two skis and I was wondering if some of you had opportunity to ski both and how do they compare? I ski mostly in the Alberta Rockies.

I am aggressive/advanced front side skier with occasional backside trip. My knees can no longer take moguls or deep snow. I am 6' 3'', 200 pounds.

Thank you!

While both of these skis might look similar on paper, they are vastly different. Since we don't ski on paper..the difference is important. The FA84, one of my favorite skis for this season check out my review is a hard snow charger and while it is 84 underfoot, off piste and backside is not it's forte...kinda like a BMW X5 Xdrive50 with 20" wheels, while it is a SUV, it is by no means an off road vehicle...but will run with many sports cars in the twisties. The RTM84 is a more versatile ski that will be more at home on the backside due to it's more compliant flex. The RTM has zero camber underfoot (where the FA is a full cambered ski) and early rise in the tip and tail. This camber design lends to an easy feel in the crud and softer snow but not nearly as precise as the FA in the groomers and at speed.

+1 to what Phil said.  Almost word for word what I was going to say.

Good luck,

+2 for Phil's summary.

I own the FA84 in the 184 length.  It is a LOT of ski, really coming awake somewhere around 35 mph.  Below that, it works fine, but feels dull, and almost "bored".  I cannot remotely find its speed limit, and will just say that 58 mph is not it.  Off-piste, it is demanding, and in bumps it's kind of looking for the exit.

I'm typically a lover of Nordica skis, having owned several -- and the FA80 may be my all-time favorite do-everything ski -- but I am probably going to sell the 84s.  They are a strange ski, being a bit wide-waisted, but almost completely front side oriented.  In that environment, I have more fun on my Blizzard G-Force Supersonics with their 74 or 72  waist anyway.

Have you tried the FA84s on coral reef yet?

Agreed and Phil hit it on the nose.... I've skied the 184 and thought that I'd like the 176 better. Not a ski to err on the side of 'long' with.
