More than Watea 94, Elan 1010. But less than Blizzard flipcores

Looking to update my wider ski in a two ski quiver

Had the Watea 94.  fun, playful.  really easy in untracked.  but deflects easily in heavier snow

Next is my current ski (Elan 1010 / Olympus)   Stupid easy in good snow.  Holds an edge on the frontside.  If it has a deficit it is that it gets knocked around in bad snow.  I dont look for bad snow but thats the reality when you fly, and ski everyday (vs picking your days as a local)

I've skied the Bushwhacker/Bonafide/Cochise line.

I liked them but didnt  love them.

To me they were great for charging, but I felt like i couldnt relax.

I did not try them in the best conditions (spring refreeze) but thats my recollection.

So I'm looking for something a little less than the flipcores but more than the other two.

Waist 110 +/- .

I take two skis on Western trips, so i view this waist size as a good practical / resort powder ski.

Suggest away...

Thanks

Height/weight?

I've been on Wateas, But not the 1010 (paging Dawg to the white courtesy phone!).  I've been on the Cochise, I know what you mean (5'11, 190, but at that width I don't need a fattie free ride comp ski, I want to play).  I can see how Wateas will let you down when it gets sketchy (although the '13 Watea 106 sounds like a total macho man ski, 'Watea' has become their burly fat ski, and Big Stix took over for old-Wateas)...

Take a good look at the '14 Nordica Vagabond 185, 107mm underfoot, it's playful but with enough beef to keep you from having old-Watea flashbacks, I tried them and want a pair, bad.  Nordica also going to make the same ski with metal, the El Capo, but it feels like a Cochise with camber and just isn't what I'm looking for.

FairToMiddlin - thanks for the reply.I also used to have BigStix80 (orange one) but thats been quite a while.

I do look the fun playful feel of the Wateas.  If i lived local and skied partial days those would get a lot of mileaage.

The 1010s make pow skiing simple. point.turn.  your choice.

I'm pretty much the same size as you:  5'10", 190-195

The 1010's that i have (with a demo binding) I got from Dawgcatching.

If you are interested, PM me

thanks

Here's some ideas of a few skis in that category that fall somewhere between Wateas and Blizzis. (This is by no means an all-inclusive list, just skis that I have some experience with)  Demo if you can...

Kastle FX 94

Kastle BMX 98

Line Prophet 98

Line Influence 105

Nordica Hell & Back

Dynastar Cham 97

Line Sir Francis Bacon or Opus.
