According to the charts I should run an 8. When we do our mandatory season opening binding check I "lie" about my ability in order to get them at a 7. I can't twist out at 8 while standing still without uncomfortable strain on my ankle/knee. I can at 7 with out thinking I'm going to pop something.
Reason number 1.. I want to know the binding is the weak link in the system rather then my lower leg.
Reason number 2..As many fisherman use a lighter test line to make it more of a challenge I enjoy knowing it's not just brute force keeping my skis on my feet.
My pre releases over the last 15 years have pretty much all been when either I've been on Head/Tyrolia or Atomic bindings that seem to have a hard time holding anyone in, or when I just grab something from the rental shop in too much of a hurry to set anything other then the sole length. Even then I've skied fairly fast (for 130/140cm) and not lost a ski till I get around a DIN of 4.
