Driving in Colorado?

Anyone know the best route to Aspen from Crested Butte in April.

A guy I stayed with recently in Aspen says he hikes the reverse route in the summer, but I don`t think they open the most direct route for vehicles until the snow clears and I am not sure what kind of road it is.

Pearl Pass biggrin.gif. Not really a road and not typically open until August ( some years not at all due to snowpack ).

Ok, in April Independence Pass is still closed so forget looping around on an eastern route, so probably CO-133, etc. (mapquest). Those two cities are very close as the crow flies, but no pavement between...4+ hours...

Pearl is a gnarly 4wd only, even when it's open.  I made my wife get out and walk some sections.

I'd personally take 133.  Lot's of my friends went to western and said it was about the same either way.

I know...but the title was 'Driving in Colorado'. biggrin.gif

To go the eastern route you'd pretty much be talking about all the way back to Minturn on I-70 and then 24, etc. Way longer than 133...
