Salomon guardian binding BREAKING, needs a recall

Anyone riding on the Salomon guardian binding or similar branded product take NOTE.  Snow builds up easily (not easily removed) under the toe of the binding when in hike mood, this creates tremendous leverage on the remainder of the boot plate which resulted in the binding breaking into two pieces at this location.  This after 5 days of relatively light use in hike mood. In my case it turned a half hour ski hike into an 8 hour boot pack out.  I strongly believe that this is not a one off defect but rather a design flaw which WILL replicate over and over .. could lead to deaths.  I advised Solomon and sent broken binding in - suggested that they should do a public news release and recall all bindings .. their reply was to send me a replacement binding (which I have taken back to initial retailer for a refund) and advised that binding has been adequately tested and meets all required industry standards ... crazy stuff ?????  Have pictures!

I might have seen that on TGR, I think it was the atomic branded that has broken in half as well!

I imagine that they won't do a recall because it happens when the ski is in tour mode, so the chances of a catastrophic fall are unlikely.  As relatively few people seem to be experiencing the problem, it is probably way cheaper for them to just replace the ones that break rather than recalling all of them and...making an entirely different design?

One of the two people who has reported it on TGR said that he could just lock the heel down and skied out, so he was saved the bootpack.

thanks for the input re clicking the heal in to get out, wish I thought of it.  KEEP in mind that the binding broke in my case in hike mode but it also could fatigue in hike mode and then break while decending ... yikes!  REALLY think this is going to turn into a big story, I just hope nobody has to DIE first.  I used to design and manufacture fitness equipment and understand stress loads and breaking points well, hope I am wrong but think this may already be more common than known and certainly will replicate itself.  Cheers

Pretty funny you join two ski forums to get the word out and demand a recall.  Are you the marketing director from Markerrolleyes.gif  Note to self, have something to clean under binding before clicking in.
