Summit County skiers: look out for my (stolen) skis!

My Blizzard Crushes and my ski poles were stolen last Friday at Copper Mountain. If any of you happen by any thrift/resale stores, could you take a peek and let me know if you see them? I'll be up some time in the next couple of days, and I'll look, for sure.

They are 177s, have "Brown" written in sharpie on one tail (could be covered by stickers or something by now), and  a blue Alta snowflake sticker on the other. Salomon bindings, Z12ti's, I think.

 AppleMark

Poles are the Scott Series 4 green/orange ones from a few years back. Black straps, not white. I don't remember any distinguishing marks, probably some duct tape wrapped around one of them.

Sorry to hear this.  Do you think the rats that do this go on to ski them personally?  How could they do that with a clear conscience?  Or do they quickly resell for 25 cents on the dollar?

Sounds like Copper has a theft ring operating. Good old Gunnar Thorngren got busted there with an accomplice. Keep a close eye on eBay and craiglist posts across the US.

Sorry to hear it. Any idea if the mountain has cameras trained on the rack area that may be revealing?

I'm not sure -- even if weird, that seems more likely than reselling, unfortunately. They are chick skis and have about 90 days on them, so selling seems fruitless. There was a pair of this year's Bonafides on the next rack, as well, which makes me wonder b/c if I were stealing skis to sell, that's a no-brainer. Plus, the poles were taken, too. Old, scratched, used poles. I don't think it was part of that selling ring;I know there were some issues earlier in the season, don't know if they are still occurring.

Anyway, at first I was annoyed and bummed, but not totally gutted, as I have other skis, and they were well-used and I figure it wouldn't be the worst thing to "be forced" to buy new skis. ;-) But I did demo 4 or 5 skis out at JH, and the more skis I skied, the more I missed my Crushes, and the more irritated I got.

Do you think it could be a case of mistaken identity... somebody thought they were their skis? Does Copper's rental fleet include this ski? If so could it be at the rental shop? It just seems odd that an older, clearly well used ski would be stolen like that unless some dirtbag thought it was an easy upgrade. I lock my newer boards but once they're a few seasons old, I seldom lock them.

Where did you leave them?

Those bindings looked pretty easily adjustable, poles gone too, better skis right next to them left?  I bet someone else lost their skis and decided to take yours and ski them.  That is what I would venture to guess.  Even without demo or system bindings simply having a certain BSL could make your skis a target for someone that is looking for an immediate ride.

May all the base repairs fall out, especially the one next to the edge!

May the toe piece fail as they are heading towards the trees!

In the immortal script of "Pulp Fiction":

"They should be f***ing killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution."

Outside in burning stones plaza, after skiing. Stolen some time between 4:15 and 4:45.

Nope, not at all. Not a rental ski, and definitely not a rental pole. First thing I did was fill out an accident report at Copper, so they have a record.

Same with me -- had it been a newer pair, I would have been mad at myself, but I don't worry about the older stuff.

Sorry to hear that your skis got stolen. I hope they hang the thieves soon.

Just a thought. I talked to someone on the lift the other day and he told me about his skis being taken at a Colorado resort but they were same model as the mountain's performance rentals. He found his at the rental shop. I hoped you may be so fortunate.

Looks like Midwest Pete found some humor in this...from the Gaper 'Boy thread:

Gaper Boy spotted entering Denver pawn shop...

Sorry about the skis, but I hope this brings a smile.

Sorry to hear that. Seeing my skis gone is always one of my biggest fears skiing, especially now that I'm considering new skis. Cheap cable locks can be cut in 5 seconds and the ones that can't weight 2 or 3 lbs. frown.gif

A lock will prevent someone taking yours by mistake and a thief will usually move on the easier pickings.  I always lock mine.

Yeah it's probably better than unlocked, but those 1/16" cable certainly doesn't raise any confidence. I'll try to make one with 1/8" cable, can't be snipped as easily with a small pliers and doesn't weight as much as a bike lock.

That really sucks.  I know how much you loved those skis.  They were a great match for you.  I guess you'll need to start a thread on finding the right replacement for the Crush. frown.gif
