Boreal in the Tahoe Area has always been an inexpensive place
They offer a beginner program that yields a season pass after 4 visits for $120
The national ski area association analyzed this program in the report below
Crazy thing in this report was how many actually finished the program and came back for a pass 6.8% !!!
And only 5% returned for a 5th time
These figures are from the 2010 - 2011 where it did snow like crazy here
That actually is not surprising because as I noted above it is not simply the walk up lift ticket prices that discourages due to cost. Add in driving gas costs, lodging cost, food costs, rental equipment costs which can be expensive for twentysomethings that are starting out their jobs and careers at lower pay and just starting to accumulate wealth. And besides though Boreal is fine for beginners and novices, it is at the low end of interesting terrain with a total vertical drop of like 550 feet.
