Sarge's Shelter where I had been eating my P&J sandwich on previous days was closed for a private party, so I stashed my Lunch in one of the outdoor lockers at Buffalos at the top of Lift 4. I've seen the congregating bird that fly overhead hoping to find some remnants remaining on the picnic tables outside from people eating their lunch outside. I was about two thirds finished with my sandwich when a bird landed on my table and stared at my sandwich. I guess I got a first hand lesson in survival of the fittest when the bird hopped across the table and flew off with the rest of my lunch. Anyway thought it was pretty funny how aggressive and bold this bird was. Can't be easy surviving at 10,000 ft. Without the contributions from tourists. So if you are outdoor dining at Vail, beware that bird that just landed on your table is there to eat!

Just be happy that is was a PB&J sandwich, and not a gourmet Vail lunch. Hmm, I wonder if a bird knows the difference.
In the summer, at the Atlantic beaches in So. Jersey, seagulls are masters of stealing food. Hold any morsel with your hand in the air...it will be gone very quickly.
