Some things really should be left alone until the basics are there.
Like cross blocking. Most young kids just get screwed up by it and end up rotating the whole body. There's no need to cross block when you're 2 feet from the gate. Plus, really young kids should not run gated slalom but use brushes. What age they go to gates is up for debate, but slalom gate skiing is like suddenly playing tackle football (American) with big kids.
They need to learn to glide through turns in different conditions. All this other stuff is a distraction
