Saddleback Prime Cuts

My hasty cell phone shots, stolen while impatient friends await, reveal a variety of flaws in both technology and technician. Nevertheless, it would be a shame not to point out that the last few days at Saddleback have been very, very good, with 10-inch-plus days in the trees Wednesday and today (Sunday), excellent skiing in between, and generally moderate crowds and weather. (Where was everyone today? I mean, I like non-existent lines as much as the next guy, but I also want this place to stay solvent.)

I spent a lot of time skiing with a group of 13 - 15 year olds, which was good for my aging soul. smile.gif

Well, at least you have my favorite olives, there in Gaeta.

LF, I have a short video clip coming, but need a few minutes of peace and no competition for the PC to get it loaded. Working on it.

Yep--you're making me homesick too, qcanoe. After 30+ years in Colorado, I still miss those woods, and the powder days that nobody thinks ever happen in the East.

Looking forward to the video...and more pictures....?

Best regards,
Bob

Planning a trip north in two weeks, maybe it's time to try Saddleback! Awesome pics.

This is a short clip of my fourteen-year-old in Nightmare Glade. As anyone who's ever tried even the most rudimentary ski filming - and this is certainly rudimentary - can tell you, the terrain is more challenging than it looks from the comfort of your computer chair!

A shame I only see Maine in summer. Thanks for the video, he looks to be getting plenty of momentum.

That's pretty nice. Are those glades officially maintained or is all of that, ahem, volunteer labor?

Officially maintained. Last Wednesday's additional dump of wetter snow actually helped a lot with covering some stumps and what have you on the upper mountain, so conditions now are even better than those seen in the pics. Few inches new pretty much every day this week. The skiing today was about add good as it gets in new England. Pleasantly wiped at this point. smile.gif

Qcanoe,  sorry to steal ur thread, but I was curious if U have used any setup with AT bindings to get over to Muleskinner.  If so what did you think of them, and what would rec for a touring binding?  Thanks.

On a more related note those photos make me want to ski,  Summer sucks.

No. Sorry. No clue about that. It's not that far to skate from the top of the lift. I'm a nordic skier too, so I just think of the traverse as a bonus workout. biggrin.gif

There are plenty of people who do backcountry stuff in the Sugarloaf / Saddleback region, using a variety of gear including AT setups, but I'm not one of them at this point. Good luck in your research!
