The Perfect Ski

A ski off between some 2003 top end skis.
Criteria; quick, lively, stable at Mach 10, happy anywhere on the mountain on any mountain in any conditions, can be powered hard or will allow the occasional cruise, the ski that just makes you want to scream with delight.
unfortuatley my perfect ski isn't listed....not even my second choice is there. oh well.
Mine isnt listed either but probly most would not consider my perfect ski to be a perfect ski because it is very specialized. Anyone who has read my posts about the stock Elan SLX knows that it rips but it is deffinitly made for only short turns, but this ski is as close to perfection that you can come when yer making short turns.

me either. For me - my G41s are the perfect all around ski and meet all the criteria listed above. There's no one perfect ski for everyone...
Your selection of skis is vary limited. Whats the point of your poll anyway?
My point exactly. :
What? No fat twins? Can't be my perfect ski!
My perfect ski is no on there. As of right now, I'm with altagirl, my G4's are great. Stable at insane speeds, comfortable on the steep and deep, quick side to side, and they make me feel like a superhero. A little shakey in the hard bumps, but no big deal there. Basically its a fat GS ski.
My perfect ski isn't there either, or in existance for that matter since I want one that can change flex, length and sidecut on demand like the Terminator 3!

But I think she was looking specifically for a ski for herself, and asking what the best we thought was between those choices . . . not our personal "ultimate ski"? Thats what the question sounds like at least.
what's with all those hard snow/groomer skis?

in that group I'd ski the Volkl but what's the point?

not too likely to be able to do a postholing "earn your turns" run with those boards... or, at least, not a very fun one.
Definitely appreciating the G4 love (and the special sauce)...Borderline offensive that it's not in the SKI magazine review..Or maybe that's a hidden compliment.
geez, it isnt there but the best all around ski there is is either A. Atomic 10ex B. Bandit XX C. Atomic 9.18 D. Salomon 1080. However u cant have the best of all worlds, these are by me the most balanced skis. 9.18 is fairly good in the pipe, as weel as tenex and double x, but nothin compared to the 1080. Then again the 1080 is no good on icy runs, the 10ex, double x and 9.18 are. Then again 9.18 sucks ass in pow, the list goes on and on.

Thankyou Todd, yes I was asking for peoples view on the best of these skis as this is what I had narrowed my buying selection down to. I went ahead and bought the Volkls and then came back here to find that this won most of the votes anyway which was re-assuring.

I know there is no 'perfect ski' for everyone and I am sorry if I offended other peoples fav skis in the meantime.
Bec how are you finding the Supersports? I am thinking about buying them as well.
Atomic BetaRide 9.22
Pure Bliss...
Awfully limited poll, no fats?
K2 Axis XP might be one of mine

Hello. Context.
Did not mean everyone to take this so literally. As I said before I was looking for the best ski out of the selection I gave. Sorry to upset you all.

Anyway I bought the Volkl T50's, skied them for a week and have fallen deeply in love. If anyone would care to know about them see my review in Gear General under someone elses post "Volkl T50's, what length"

Perhaps someone should start a new poll with all recent skis on it.

Atomic 10.ex for me -- looks like the poll needs a longer list!

ditto
Surprise! It's the Rossignol Bandit XX!
Honestly Oboe your posts are priceless... haha. I ahev to agree with you though, the best all mountain - all condition - no matter what ski iver ever skied is the XX. So i'll give you some credibility

The skis you have listed are only good on the groo mers. Where r the fat twins, (ie) banditXXX, sugar daddy, pocket rocket, G-4? those skis can do it all, if u have the skills!
What??? Where are the Head I.C 200s ?? I think for most skiers, in the broadest range of conditions, they would be the perfect ski..

121/66/106
r = 12 m/170

That says it all!
How can you have a perfect ski poll with out Atomic. My vote would be for the Supercross SX-11 or if you prefer fat twins, the Stomp.

Cheers, Meesh
My god those skis all suck!!! They are Racer Gaper Skis. Your Poll should have the Volkl V-Pro, Volkl V-Explosive, K2 Seth Pistol, K2 AK Enemy, Dynastar Super Nobis, or any other fat ski. In my opinion that is what I feel they should be.

I hate most racers being a freerider/park skier who makes fun often racers who spend all the day just racing gates and then going home while I do rails, parks hits, and cliff drops around the mountain.

My vote for the best bang for the buck is the 00/01 Atomic Beta Ride 10.20 (the orange ones). If your technique is up to riding these in 190, there are still a few to be had at great prices.
Lucky for me, the masses were all told to avoid 190's, and they obeyed. I have 2 pair and always have at least one pair tuned perfectly. Here's how I rate them under your criteria:
Quick- 7 out of 10. Not quick edge to edge at low speed, they are much better when yer movin'.
Lively- 9 out of 10. Way more so than the 10ex. Much more reaction from edging input. Exhilarating pop into the next gouge.
Stable- 9 out of 10. Yes! They feel stable to around 60 mph, as long as they're on edge. On the other hand, they feel unstable at any speed when not edged, like all shaped skiis.
All Conditions- 7 out of 10. Fun in powder, (Isn't everything?)but dicey in the trees. Blast thru crud with confidence. Stays on top of windcrust nicely. Gouges up groomed softpack with the best. Don't know about ice, we now get midwinter conditions here till May, and the hill closes in April. So no icy spring mornings any more. No sunny afternoons, either.
Powered Hard- 9 out of 10. Now we're talkin'
Occasional Cruise- Huh? Never tried that. I'm guessing 6 out of 10.
Scream With Delight- Oh yeah, baby!!!

Well, folks, that's my contribution to the financially challenged. In other words, I like these skiis aaaalmost as much as oboe likes his Bandits.

Hair straight back,
D.H.
