I'd like to take advantage of some late- or off-season deals and buy some boots. I have a dilemma: I live in the midwest.
Our local "ski shop" has limited offerings, particularly in my size and flex. Though I probably won't find ideal boots there, they do employ an experienced bootfitter (Montana native) who I hope can give me a goot fit. But, regrettably, I'm afraid I'll have to order boots online and then take them to him. I may order 2 or 3 pairs and absorb the return shipping cost for the ones I decide not to keep. That said, I'd like to narrow my search to a small handful of suitable candidates and was hoping someone of similar stature and more boot-buying experience than myself might kindly offer some suggestions.
I'm 6'4", 220 lbs. I suppose I have a medium-width foot. I'm not an expert, but I'm comfortable enough to ski most of the mountain (mostly single diamonds, a few doubles here and there). I ski a few days in a down year, maybe 7 to 10 in a very good year. Trees are my favorite, and going very, very fast on open runs is a close second. I'd consider myself aggressive. Not always pretty, but aggressive. I have a pair of Dynastar Sultan 94s, 184cm, if that helps. Hopefully that's enough background.
I'd like a stiff all-mountain boot. I'm leaning towards a 120-130 flex. Wondering if 130 is pushing it for someone who isn't an expert, or does my size justify the added stiffness?
Might I solicit a few recommendations based on this criteria? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Oh, and I'd love to get into a pair for $500 or less, which seems doable as the season winds down.
Thanks so much.
