I'm currently riding an older pair (2009) of 174CM K2 Extremes. I love them and have enjoyed every moment on the mountain with them, but they are getting pretty beat up and it might be time to move on. Thus, I am looking into a pair of the 50th anniversary Recoils.

My question is this: I have gained a few pounds since I bought the Extremes, but I haven't noticed a drop off in performance. I'm wondering if I should bump up to 179CM for the recoils or stick with the 174 since that is what I know and love. I'm about 5'10"/5'11" and my weight fluctuates between 185 & 205 depending on the athletic season. I do all of my riding in the New England area. I'm an aggressive intermediate skier, and very rarely hit any rails.

Any input would be appreciated.

I've been skiing the same skis for the last 3 seasons, also in a 174...  I'm much larger than you and now realize I should've gone with something much longer.  I'm 6'1" 250 and was sold the 174 size based on the shop "expert", I had demo'd Mantras in 177 the year before ('09), again based off the shop "expert" opinion.  The 17x recommendation came as kind of a shock as I had been Skiing 205cm Salomon F9s for nearly 10 years prior (just a couple NE days a year, due to school and job in the south), but I just chalked it up to the new ski technology and the word of mouth about skiing parabolic skis much shorter than the old straight skis.

My Extremes aren't worn out yet, they look like hell because the top sheets chip up so easily, but I need get the longer size and will be replacing the extremes prematurely, most likely I will get at least a 185 or larger.

I'd go 179, but if you aren't hitting the park much, I'd look at a longer all-mountain option.
