Montezuma Bowl opened today...

…and it was sketchy.

Betsy and I headed up and over today as they dropped rope.   Patrol was bust’n their butts to keep it safe back there.

AB's front side better with Lenawee skiing soft.  Pali was hard and fast.

Betsy at top of Zuma lift and then Patrol (who suggested we hang with him for a run on his best line) with my gloved hand in both iphone shots...cold, snowy and windy today eek.gif

Even if it is still a bit sketchy, I'm just happy to see them get some more terrain open.  Without the backside open, A-Basin can be a bit insane on the weekends.

Insane crowds on weekends?!

We avoid adding to ski patrol or state patrol issues while improving our vertical and maintaining our sanity: we only ski weekdays wink.gif

Copper opened Mountain Chief at noon yesterday and it was a lot of fun as was Blackjack that opened the day before.  Windy with very deep drifts in spots, so it was challenging.  Kudos to patrol for the tremendous effort they were putting in!

Stoked to see the storm systems coming in.  Looks like Mothers Day at Abasin is going to be a "ski" weekend this year, eh?yahoo.gif

Amen.

I wouldn't count on it just yet.  We're still only at about 125"-150" of snowfall this season.  That's a far cry from where we need to be, but the storm pattern has been setting up better lately.  I just wish the storms would hammer the Front Range more than the San Juans and North of us.

We skiied two runs today. It was horrible :P It wouldn't have been so bad if people knew what they were doing. But like everything abasin, when it opens its sketchy coverage and narrow trails. Add to that holiday weekend traffic and lots of "early graduates to blue" we did two runs out there and headed back out front. It will be nice when the next storm rolls through and lets them widen up the skiout to the lift.

This was the Zuma cornice area today (slide happened Saturday 2/16).  14 people were caught in this avalanche.  Fortunately the worst that happened was one person had a knee injury and needed to be carted down.  Everyone else was OK.

Yep , it slid down to the dirt, snow wasn't very deep, no one buried.
