Bye Bye Tapatalk, Hello Mobile Platform!

Thread Starter

Before we had a mobile site we encouraged our mobile users to view the site on Tapatalk, but since launching the mobile platform we have seen Tapatalk usage go down considerably, to the point where it doesn't make sense for us to support Tapatalk for the very small and decreasing number of Tapatalk users. Here's the rationale:

The mobile site now brings in almost 20 times more posts than Tapatalk.

We'd like to make sure the remainder of Tapatalk users know about the new mobile site and try it out. We'd also like to gradually migrate everyone off Tapatalk and onto the mobile site.

Aside from the obvious cost in time and resources to maintain compatibility between our site and newer Tapatalk releases, there are some other notable advantages to switching all users to the new mobile site:

  1. Ability to see featured content on the homepage.
  2. Ability to use the new featured content targeting tools for logged-in vs logged-out users on mobile.
  3. Site search
  4. Monetization
  5. Ability to send and receive PMs in a threaded format.

All these are not available when checking the site through Tapatalk.

So, if you are still using Tapatalk to view EpicSki on your mobile devices, we encourage you to try the new mobile site. It's a very good platform, please try it and see! Thank you!

+1 on the mobile site. I find I use it more than the regular site now. Amazingly good for a first pass. There are a couple minor features on the desktop site that I haven't found yet on the mobile site, but not a huge deal. Basically I go to the main site now mostly when I want to write a lot, just because I'm a fast and accurate keyboardist and a slow and clumsy screen-tapper.

+1 again for the new mobile site.  By far the best forum controls I've ever used for my mobile phone.  Wish they were all this good.  Keep it up!

I searched the Apple App store and couldn't find it.  where do I go to find the app?

Not an app (I don't think?). Just type epicski.com into your mobile browser and log in. Same way you would on a computer.

I love the mobile site, too. I really didn't use Tapatalk (although I downloaded it) because I found it cumbersome. The mobile site is really user-friendly. Good job.

Dsloan has it right: the mobile site detects when a mobile device is accessing it. There are also two buttons at the bottom of the page where you can choose to view EpicSki from the desktop platform or the mobile platform, for those who want to see what the mobile experience is like. Remember too that this is the first pass at mobile for our crack engineering team, who are working on adding most of the functionality of the desktop site to the mobile site. I will pass along your compliments!

Lovin' the mobile!

Never paid for TT, I wish all online forums would adopt this format.

I'm on the site about half the time using the mobile platform. I almost can't remember life without it...well, yes I can.  I just didn't surf Epicski away from a desktop or laptop platform.

I used the site in Chrome on my iPhone yesterday and it worked great!  Very smooth experience, no problems posting a picture, etc.

Have to say the mobile platform is the best out of box thing epic has ever done. It is bad for my eyes though on a phone.

Excellent job!

Then there's walking into light poles while looking at the phone. Now they have to pad them.

Eh, I have always preferred using tapatalk.  I usually have a bunch of tabs open in my browser and I like having a "separate" app that's away from all that.  I also like Tapatalk's layout better, though part of that is probably just because I'm used to that since I use it for other forums as well.

Is there a way to "Mark Forums Read" on the Mobile like the Desktop version?  I like to Mark forums Read so I know where I left off at last login, otherwise I can get completely overwhelmed and lose track of new posts.

I'm not seeing that on the mobile.  Is is possible?  If so, anyone explain where/how?

So, I stay logged in on my mobile. If a new post has appeared in a thread, there's a blue dot next to it on the left (grey if I've read then all). When I go to the forum, it scrolls to where I left off, just like the desk top. I didn't check anything specific on my mobile.

Is tapatalk support withdrawn? I've been getting unable to connect to forum messages in the past few days.

Go to Forums, then you will see a small box in the upper right. Clicking that takes you to the Mark Forums Read option. Make sure when you are clicking on the Forums menu item you click the left "bubble" side, not the right, antenna or New Posts, side.

I did, but it wasn't clear on when support for tapatalk is to end and I wanted to know if it has ended already.
