What to wear on cold days?

What do you wear on cold days and do you have any tips to stay warm?

My complete cold weather list:
The North Face Slasher Cargo Pant
The North Face Free Thinker Jacket
Under Armour long underwear
Smartwool snowboarding socks
Patagonia Capilene 2 top sometimes a Tech t-shirt under this also.
Fleece jacket
Helmet (keeps my skull warm)
balaclava
Goggles
hestra heli gloves.

I want to switch out the fleece sweater for a Down sweater like the ultra light ones at Eddie Bauer?
Any thoughts?

Welcome to EpicSki!

I typically ski in temps that range from -10 to about 30 or so, the average is probably in the single digits.

I'm a cold natured person to the fullest extent, so I've done alot of experimenting with layers to get to where I'm comfortable.

My normal ski attire is:

A one piece merino wool suit from backcountry (I believe Stoic is the brand), that has made a ton of difference.

Columbia Treegrinder insulated pants.

Under Armour (except store brand) cold weather mock turtleneck.

North Face Hecktic Down jacket (very very warm).

I bought a pair of mittens on sale, I believe Drop is the brand.

And I have one of those nifty hat/balaclava combo's that I wear under my helmet (it's made by Seirus).

I haven't gotten cold in that setup yet (just my toes), and have had to start opening the vents on several occasions due to heat.

With regards to staying warm, I'd just offer up all the same advice that people throw out around here.

You're much better wearing too much rather than too little, you can always take excess layers off. Wear regular socks to the slope, and then change into your ski socks right before you walk onto the slope so you're starting out in a warm/dry pair. Days where I forget this, my feet ALWAYS get cold because all of us sweat and just a little moisture in socks is all it takes to get cold, fast.
