Need assistance with Ideas for pain in shin muscle group

Last year I had a fall and in part was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and nerve entrapment along the peroneal area. It apparently has not healed fully and I have been experiencing significant pain when in the boot and flexing hard; more when skiing bumps. The pain is pretty much from where the Tibia/Fib and ankle meet and up about 4"and just to the outside (left) of the tibia bone. I am OK when on the groomed or soft snow but it gets extremely painful if I get into firm bumps or harder variable conditions. Its pretty much when flexing hard in the boot.  I do not experience pain when flexed and not wearing a boot.

I went to my PT yesterday and he suggested in trying to get a fitter to come up with a way to keep the boot/liner off my lower shin. I keep the buckle very loose and just use the booster strap now but I was hoping to get some ideas on how to modify the boot to get the shell off that area.

make sure your boots are not too big, so that you flex evenly on the shin to boot area in the first place.

check the upper cuff alignemtn and try moving the cuff away from the sore side?

custom foam tongue, with padding on your shin, on the sore spot, durring the foaming, to make a pocket.

eleminator tongue, and carve out a pocket.

THANKS!  boots are perfect fit otherwise and alligned within .5* to the inside on each boot. I like the ideas for the pocket around the tongue.

follow up- I had harry over at Steamboat Bike and Kare take a look. He ground out a channel in the hard plastic exterior part of the tongue and then ground some of the lower interior plastic instep flap. He also moved the cuff to the outside. Flexing in the shop felt noticeably better but we will see tomorrow.  We are expecting 1-2 feet today and overnight.....
