Saw there are two snowcat operations in the area: Grand Targhee snowcat and Togwottee Mountain Lodge snowcat.  Can anyone suggest one over the other??

Considering the fact that the Togwotee snowcat operation is not actually operating right now, I would recommend Grand Targhee.

And you may say, "But wait, their website SAYS they have snowcat skiing!".  Nevertheless, I just spoke to the lodge and they are not operating the snowcat skiing this winter.  That's kind of too bad because they have some pretty cool terrain that's accessible essentially right outside the lodge.  I've skied there several times (by skinning, not by snowcat) and it's very good skiing.

One slight (or significant, depending on how you look at it) downside is that a portion of the terrain they ski is not only accessible by skinning to anyone who wants to go there, but it's also now accessible by the new and powerful snowmobiles that are omnipresent up there.

Go to Targhee.  You'll have lots of fun.

I did the Grand Targhee snowcat skiing a few years ago and it was a blast!  I would like to do it again someday...
