HEAD REV80, Fischer Motive80 or Elan Waveflex Amphibio 78Ti/82xTi

Thread Starter

I am leaning towards adding to my ski selection. I am looking for something that would be fun on groomers, have some agility in trees, hold edge on icy slopes and with shorter radius suitable for chasing kids on a beginner slope. On a recent ski trip I have discovered that I would have much more fun on groomers on something other than my Elan Spire, those are great, and I love them in chopped up powder, soft bumps, freshies in the trees, off piste in 6"-8" of untracked. On the groomers those are not the greatest, I felt it shouldn't be that much work.

After some research my choice is down to these 3 (4):

HEAD REV80 (177cm)

Fischer Motive 80 (175cm)

Elan Waveflex Amphibio 78Ti/82xTi (176cm)

How are these skis different in above mentioned situations?

What is (skiing) difference between REV80 and REV80 Pro?

How much difference between 78Ti and 82xTi for above mentioned situations?

I think that intended length is OK, any suggestions?

I am not in a position to demo all of these, I am fine with buying them and getting rid of them if not liking them.

6'1", 180lb., not fast skier, comfortable on most runs, not crazy about moguls, do not like icy conditions, but often encounter them - that's why Fischer's made the list, I made a mistake of getting rid of Cold Heat, great edge grip, boosting confidence of ice scared skiers.. Always looking to improve and like working on improving.

If somebody out there has one of these for sale - feel free to make a sales pitch.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Disclaimer: I am a dealer for all 3.

With that said, you have a good list there, all a bit different.

Motive 80: a bit of rocker, really nice flex pattern, flows well in crud and bumps.  Above average energy on the groomers.  Super versatile, nice and damp too.

REV 80: a little softer, better in cruddy soft snow, nice large sweet spot, soft tip.  Great in steeps.  tons of energy, yet traditional Head dampness.  Really easy to ski

Magfire 78ti: a little more solid than the other 2 on hard snow (has metal, the only of the 3), great in bumps, smooth, nice blend of power and snow feel. Very good ski for those looking for energy w/o too much work.

Magfire 82xti: quite a bit stiffer, better for bigger skiers.  Still very smooth, just a more solid ski, but is on the stiff side compared to the 78ti and the others.
