Instep vs foot length

So, I went to my local boot fitter today and tried on some new boots to hopefully size down on my current boots. Anyways, it turns out I've got a large instep compared to my foot length. My instep is 25 cm and my foot length is ~25 - 25.25 cm. In a size 25 boot I have about 2 cm behind my heel, and yet the bootfitter said I couldn't get into a size 24 boot due to my high instep. From what I've read, instep does seem to be the more important factor in boot sizing, but can anyone confirm that? I definately want a performance fit.

can you find a 24 boot that has a taller/higher instel?

your whole foot, should feel snug in the boot, not just the instep hieght

thanks for the input mntlion. So I tried on the Atomic Burner 110 in 25 and the Lange RX 100 LV. The Burner was a lot better in the instep but there was still a lot of room behind the heal. Are there some specific boots that would have a higher instep? Would a three piece design boot from Dalbello or Full Tilt maybe work better? And also, is 25 cm instep actually large compared to a 25 cm foot length? Thanks.

look for a boot with a 5-15mm shell fit, and fits your instep.

technica cochise, or aie shells are taller.   but really just keep trying boots or stores and find someone that will work with you

so my shell fit and my instep should fit well? hmmm. Yeah, I'm going to go try some different shops. That shop put me into boots that were about 1.5 sizes to big two years ago, and now they're doing the same thing. Don't really trust them that much anymore. Thanks for the good info, though, mntlion.

Let's back up to your instep height since that was skipped.  25 cm?  Puts your instep 10 inches high.

I mean the measurement from one side of my heel, over my instep, and to the other side of the heel.

It doesn't sound like you have an abnormally high instep.  Generally, if measuring on a brannack (sp?) device the distance from one side of heel to the other is the same as the length, I consider that fairly average?  Now if the instep parameter is a larger number then, yes this is a higher than average instep.

There are plenty of 24.5 boot models out there which would fit your feet!

That's what I wanted to hear! So instep perimeter is the length over one's instep and around the heal?
