On piste skis with 16 - 17 m radius for a small lady

Hi

I'm trying to find new on-piste skis for my wife, she is an athletic and advanced skier, but due to her size (5' / 100 lb) my options are limited. At the moment she has a nice pair of Atomic Race SL 12 JR skis, with 11 m radius but I'm trying to find something with 16 - 17 m radius range. Are there other reasonable options than JR GS skis for an athletic and advanced skier with 100 lb body mass?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Welcome to EpicSki!  I'm a petite older woman, 5'0", 115 pounds, advanced skier but not too adventurous.  Meaning I leave steep chutes or tight trees to others.  I think there are more good ski options for your wife than you might think.

Look here for ideas to get you started:

Where do you usually ski?

Thank you for your fast reply.

Usually we ski in Finland and sometimes also in Sweden and Norway. She really likes the responsiveness and performance of her current SL skis, and now I'm trying to find the equal qualities combined with larger turn radius and increased stability in high speeds.

I understand the models offered n Europe are different than here in the US.  Also skiers in Europe prefer narrower carving type skis compared to the wide skis that are popular here.  I would think that an all mountain ski designed for women would work, something on the narrower side.

Assuming that she is on roughly a 150cm or so, you will be hard pressed to find a ski with that long of a TR in approx that length. The exception probably is the GS ski that you mentioned. Some recreational women's skis will have something in that TR range in their design lengths, (usually a 160-165) but the TR will get shorter as the size goes shorter.

Regardless of the manufacturer / ski model it seems to be very hard to find other skis than GS JR ski that carves correctly under a 5' tall 100 lb skier, is torsionally rigid enough for aggressive skiing and has a turning radius around 17 meters.
