Do I keep my Atomic Blackeyes or buy some Atomic Theorys

Hi all, I have  a small dilemma, I purchased a pair of 174cm Atomic Blackeyes, they are probably at the top of my comfort range with length and stiffness (sorry that just sounds bad..... I'm 5'8" and around 73-75kg, 160lbs ish). Anyway, I normally board when there is powder so purchased the Blackeyes as the piste and a little off piste ski, but mainly for cruzing with the wife and young kids. I have just spent a day at Whistler, although my usual haunt is Europe, and was using some Salomon Rocker 2 90's in 177cm. I felt they were a little long but enjoyed the slightly wider softer skis and did take them off piste, although my skills were lacking. Anyway, I get great deals on Atomic, so my question is do I stick with my Blackeyes as they will be good on the groomed and hardpack or do I switch to the Theorys which I guess will be passable on hardpack at best. If I switch to the Theorys, would 168cm be too short, (given that I felt the 177cm Salomons a bit much. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

I got to demo the 177 theory for two runs on frozen groomers. It definately skis shorter than a 177 twin on piste, and did not feel 95mm underfoot. Although Edge hold is like you said "passable" at best on hard snow, but was alot of fun in the sugar snow on the sides of the trails and I did manage to find a short crossover trail with 8 to 10 " of lightly tracked out dense noreaster snow, where it felt its true underfoot width. All in all I think it could be fun as a family skiing cruiser, especially riding switch and watching the little ones. FYI, I am 5 5" x  160sh lbs, so 177 would be perfect for you. Hope that helps, maybe someonr more familiar with those two skis can add more.

ally, I was in the exact same situation with the blackeyes in the 174 (I'm 6"0, 140) and felt that in order to bend them I had to be at a very high rate of speed. I also just got the Theories and am loving them.

Have any of you tried the rituals? They are 103 underfoot. Wonder if they have the same atomic feel, loving my crimsons, thinking they could be a good wider ski.

I demoed the Ritual at Big Sky a couple weeks ago and it will be half of my next season's 2-ski quiver.  I really liked how it skied in the trees, cut-up fresh powder, bumps, groomers, chutes, you name it, except I didn't ski any ice and it would no doubt suck on ice.  It just did everything I want a wide ski to do and it was fun to ski.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it under the right circumstances.

ally55. If you are comfortable skiing Blackeyes in 174cm, then the Theory in 168cm would (in theory) seem to be short. The Theory is the type of ski (soft-snow biased) that most people would tend to ski longer than they would the Blackeye (hard snow bias), not shorter. Just my $.02

I agree with FlashGordon.  I have the theory in 177 and I couldn't imagine going less.  They definitely ski short.
