Fischer Hybrid Ski Boots: can you walk in them? What do you give up?

I'm considering purchasing a pair of Fischer hybrid ski boots. Boots you can switch into walk mode seem really useful for trudging across parking lots etc. Is this a gimmick or does the walk mode really work? What do you give up in terms of performance, safety, or durability? Does anyone have any experience skiing in these boots? Thanks for your expert advice! smile.gif

they will cost a bit more, weight a bit more, more moving parts (more chance of something breaking)

for most people, it is not the boot that is the limiting factor in there skiing performance.
