Need suggestions for skis, what brand, size, etc.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get back into skiing after many years.  I lived in the mountains East of Seattle WA from 3 yrs to 9 yrs old.  I got pretty good, even unofficially teaching people to ski at about 6.  I moved away and didn't ski again until about 5 years ago on a day trip (by the way, I'm 42 now).  We will be skiing at Tahoe, maybe other resorts near there, depending on the deals we can get for tickets.  I was reading reviews on skis for my 3 year old when I came across what looked like it might be a good ski for me, the Fischer RX6.  I'm 6', 190 lbs and I've never been on the new design skis, so I don't have a clue what to expect or what size to get.  I used to used 190's, but is it proper to use a shorter ski with the new design?  I saw comments on these skis where the people were about my size, intermediate level using 170's.

Part 2:  The wifey is about 5'4", 190 lbs, and has never been on skis in her life.  She will be found only on the bunny hill for a while.

Part 3:  Our son is 3 yrs old, on the taller side for his age.  Actually stood a pair of 100's next to him and he is slightly taller than those.  I was looking at the Atomic SX 7, 90's.

Finally, I'm trying to do this on a bit of a budget, like ebay or craigslist budget.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

David

Welcome to EpicSki!  Yes, current shaped skis are quite different in terms of what length is appropriate.

Would be good if you did some reading in the Family Skiing or Beginner Zone forums.  As well as the Articles (menu bar at top).
