Staff profiles and GNAR Points

Thread Starter

So earlier this week I wanted to click a thumbs up for a Laurel Hill Crazy post only to discover he has no icon14.gif on his bottom bar next to the quote buttons at all.  At first I concluded that perhaps you turned off GNAR points for the staff profiles.  Today I am noticing that there are other people with staff badges (Trekchick) that still have the icon14.gif but LHC still does not.  What's up with that??

Not to jack your thread, CR, but I've always wondered what is the point of GNAR points?  Do you get a free toaster or something once you have acquired a certain number?

I use them as just an easy way to agree with someone without having to add another post to the thread saying essentially nothing more than, "Yep, you're right" or "Me too" or anything similar.

Do they have some other purpose???

Okay, try again.  The moderator permissions had the ability to mute reputation.  I removed that, so it should show up again.

Heaven knows LHC could use some gnar.

I haven't gotten any in almost a month...I thought I'd said some GNAR worthy things mad.gif

Correction: over a month! 2013 is not being kind to me. Click the thumb, you know you want to.

Come-on Tyler, I gave you your last two thumbs in December.  I can only do so much, you know?

Sorry Cirque, still no icon14.gif visible for LHC, perhaps he muted it on his end?

The forum has the ability to show rep point totals and little award ribbons for accumulation.  That feature was tuned off due to some select few people hissyfit.gif bellyaching that it was a turn off to rank people in a visible popularity contest manner.  Perhaps if we could get toaster icons instead of ribbons Cirque could turn it back on?th_dunno-1[1].gif

Many other forums have similar features and most that do also allow people to give negative feedback toodevil.gif

Put it to a vote.  If it carries a clear majority, I'm okay with it.  On the other hand, like you said...what's the point?  It usually reflects a snappy answer rather than any long-term content contributor.  So in a way, the "complainers" who think its just the popular kids is right.   We do need something besides the default ribbons.

I bet you never thought you'd be one of the cool kids, huh?  Me neither. th_dunno-1[1].gif

Thanks to Stranger for kicking things off, my posts are getting thumbed up again.

Hey Cirque, as I used to say to my detractors in the mill that rode me about my work ethic, " That only works if I have some pride". biggrin.gif I'm a nongnar kinda guy but I do think I turned off that feature but I can't remember how or where. Maybe since I turned it off it stayed off when you changed the mod settings. I guess I shy away from "that a boy" compliments because in my work history a really dirty job followed the back slap. You know a back slap isn't far from a kick ass.

I have looked everywhere I can to find the solution to this, and have to admit defeat.  As far as I know, you are the only person on the board with ZERO points and no thumbs up next to your posts to change that.

I presume this means (in the spirit of the Ultimate Thread Killer), you must have won the gnar points game. th_dunno-1[1].gif

I had some cred when I turned off that feature, now I have no cred. th_dunno-1[1].gif I'm OK with that. If I ever remember how and where I turned it off I'll be sure to let you know.

There is an individual user setting that allows you to mute your reputation display.   I don't know whereit is either, but I do know it's usually accessible to Moderators.  It may have been available to the Supporter group...I'll have to check.

Maybe we should allow all users to mute reputation.  If they don't like it, they can just opt out.

All the more votes for Homecoming Queen . . . er, gnar for the rest of us. wink.gif
post #16 of 46

Okay, the mute reputation was disabled for all user groups.  I enabled it for the Moderator user group.

LHC should be able to to go to his profile/Edit Details and un-check this option: Mute reputation display(?)

And, as he said, you have to post about Whitefish to get gnar points.  Since during winter those are the only threads I read.  biggrin.gif

Wow, LHC has a lot of catching up to do with 35 gnar points.

I think Saddleback and Whitefish are fraternal twins separated at birth. For one thing, they both have their allusions to fish deeply embedded.
I always thought a saddleback was a type of pig?

It's named after a fish? Or, whoa, stupid, it is shaped like a saddle? But what does that have to do with fish?

It's shaped like a saddle, yes.

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

That has nothing to do with the fish connection though. The local region is historically famous for excellent fishing. It's been famous as a summer resort for a hundred years; as a snowmobiling destination for decades, and as a ski area for ... well, never. In keeping with this, the runs are all named after [fishing] flies. Specifically they are named after locally popular flies. This is how you end up with trails named things like "Golden Smelt" and  "Warden's Worry" and "Parmachenee Belle", as seen in this photo. Nothing a marketing department would ever sign off on, that's for sure. Thank God. I have pics of some of this stuff here

Ok, now that I've subjected myself to the judgement of others I want to know why I can see only my gnar points and no one else? Can others see my pitifully low gnar score? Will I be judged unworthy and ridiculed in the supporters lounge? Will this stigma be transferred to my children? How can I continue living life with such a low score? Oh pity me!

I can see the points if I visit your profile.  If you'd like, it could appear right above your post count.

It's going to take a while to undo that you turned off the option.  snowfight.gif

BTW, it's not that bad
