I will be visiting from Australia in Feb.
Can anyone give me any insight/s into why there is such a huge difference in the rate for instruction between Kirkwood and the other fields.
Feel free to PM me.
This is coming from only an ignorant tourist to the region...but Kirkwood is sort of the stepchild of the Tahoe ski areas even though it's now in the Vail Resorts fold. Geographically, it is set a little apart from the southern end of the lake and seems to draw more from a local Californian base, whereas some of the other big name Tahoe resorts draw local and international guests. It also does not have a very large base village with numerous non-ski diversions. Apparently, these characteristics effect pricing in several respects. What Kirkwood does have is great advanced ski terrain and comparatively superior snow conditions.
Same applies at Heavenly.
- $635 pre-purchase reservations for up to six people, $90 per person fee beyond six people.
- $665 day-of reservation for up to six people, $120 per person fee beyond six people.
Did they have the Winter Olympics there yet :)
Look at the bright side... Vail resorts just didn't have the time to adjust the price to bring it in line with the rest of Tahoe. Only a matter of time.... :-)
