Salomon boot pricing: Impact v RS

Can someone explain to be why there's such a big difference in pricing between the Impact and RS lines? For instance, for either boots with a flex rating of 100 (Impact 100 and RS 100) the price difference is almost $200 ($625 v $440). For someone who's been pretty happy with Salomon's liners in the past, what else would I be giving up by going with the RS? Are the buckles and soles less durable or is the extra $$ for the customizable shell?

the custom shell, the quality of the liner, the quality of the plastic of the shell, the fit etc etc, the RS fits like a flower pot the impact is at least closer to foot shape, that said if the flower pot fits your foot and does what you want it to do then save your $$

Thanks. It's just that I value comfort above all else and the RS line on paper seems ideal to me. Even with thermomoldable liners and  shells, my guess is that I'll go through a break in period which I'm willing to accept. The price difference just makes me a little wary. My 8 year old salomon performas 7 are looking a little beat up and I'm thinking about taking the leap. If the RS line will last me at least 150 skiing days, I'm game.

I haven't had an RS 100 in my hands, but I would think there is a jump in liner quality when you go to the Impact line.

Salomon liners have a great out-of-the-box fit.  The foam in the Impact liner will be firmer and more responsive, and will likely have a longer life.  That's important.  Squishy comfy liner = Evil on the slopes.  Your liners should be on the firmer side of what you can handle, not just for value, but for responsiveness.  The stiffer the foam in the liner- the longer the break in- but better skiing awaits!

And now for the obligatory bootfitter statement: Don't skimp on a footbed.  Find a fitter who knows what they're doing and go for it.
