Wildhorse is about 30 miles from Nelson, a tiny village of an Inn, a bar with a few rooms (another post to follow, this is the coolest bar in North America) and about 20 homes. Its in the border kooteneys in an old logging area. Its pretty much the budget cat operation of Canada but delivers big on the most important thing; powder and good terrain. Unfortunately, they lost their lease (a whole story in itself) but Trevor is moving it up the road to New Denver.
I was skiing with a bunch of guys including Ski-ra from here. On our drive up from Spokane, it started to snow and then it got heavier and heavier of super light blower. The first morning we awoke to find about a foot of fresh and heard from our guides that in fact, they didn't get the heavier snow some areas received the day before ........ We enjoyed a top layer of a foot of super light (steamboat-esque) blower with about 2 feet of sub layered light but slightly more dense loose snow. Each untracked run was about kneed deep...
One of "joys" of Wildhorse is a 12 KM snowmobile ride up in 4 person sleds. Its a cold and bumpy wake up ride to the cat. The scenery there is amazing, tall mountain peaks line the valley as you climb up. The runs are typically 800-1000', in the mid to upper 30's with plenty of short drops and shots into the 40's. A mix of open areas at the top with varying density of lodge pole pines (and other tall narrow pines) with some areas of pines that are down-right tight. lots of stumps for small but fun pops along the way.
Here are a bunch of shots, we dont have a lot of action shots as the 1st 3 days were just too good to stop... Here are our tracks coming off Wildhorse peak.
A self pic on the ride up to the cat on a 4 person sled towed by a snow machine

This is taken at the top of the 1st picture
the top of this line is one of the steeper runs. Hard to see of course but it's pretty damn steep
