Which red wines are pretentious?

Bordeaux, twice the price for half the value.  Hey, but they have French names!

Some Walla Walla wineries. Recently tasted a $40 Walla Rhone blend against a $20 actual Rhone---the Rhone hands down.  (OK those French wines can be quite good)

Wines aren't pretentious. People are.

P.s., newfy, try the Ferrand CDR cuvee antique ... about $20. Good stuff.

Three Buck Chuck is not.

I don't know about pretentious (although any three-figure bottle probably qualifies), but I can't find the charm of Zinfandels... they just taste wrong, somehow. th_dunno-1[1].gif

Thumbs up to The Fugitive, it's my yummy blended wine when I feel like splurging (~$23)...

Slow day at the office? I've never seen someone post so many oddball questions in one day's time.

Thanks for making them count!

Agree with qcanoe. A wine is what it is. Only the person drinking the wine can be pretentious.

Nice catch. Thought those thread titles all by an "AlpineA" seemed odd. Banhammer dropped.

Anything Robert Parker rates in the high 90's and becomes an instant cult classic.

I used to think that about French wine, but experience has changed my attitude.

For instance, while there are hideously expensive Bordeauxs, there are also quite a few under $10/bottle Bordeauxs that are a tremendous value.  I can't say that I've ever had a  red Bordeaux that was actually bad in the way some California reds are completely undrinkable.  Even the $6/bottle stuff makes a nice table wine.
