Head Rev 85 177 cm - Page 2

Just a thought -- you may want to check the delta angle, the difference between heel and toe height on the PRD 12 and the Mojo you mounted on the ski. I recall that the Mojo actually has a greater delta than the PRD.   Different people notice different things, so even if the change is minor, when combined with everything else, it may be noticeable.

I'm also a bit concerned about a shop that relates the tune of a ski simply to how sharp the edges are.  How flat are the bases?  Did someone rail the ski on the grinder?  Is the base edge bevel consistent across the entire running base of the ski?

I checked with the shop I purchased my Rev 85's from and asked if they tune them before selling. They claim they come tuned from the factory so they don't touch them. Just wondering if it's general opinion that the ski's straight from Head's factory need to be tuned. I've read different things on this and fairly confused.

In general, almost every ski from every factory is skiable out of the wrapper (although sometimes barely). However, skiable does not mean optimal. If a tech with the correct tools and skills spends 45 mins or so on a pair of skis, they will be much better. The major ski factories produce roughly 300K-500K pairs of skis every year or more and they are all finished on mass production machines. It is not hard to improve on that level of quality with some reasonable knowledge and expertise.

I've got a new pair of Titans. The factory tune seems pretty good, but I was more interested in working on prepping the bases (lot's o wax'in/scrap'in/brush'in). I'll ski them, then sort out any bugs.
