Jackson Hole / Presidents Day

Thread Starter

Living in Denver, I would never even consider braving the hoards to ski the I-70 corridor over President's Day weekend.  But I'm wondering what that holiday weekend tourist load is like @ Jackson.  Maybe it's far enough away from anywhere.  For those of you in the know, should Jackson be only moderately more busy, or does it tend to get really overrun as well?  Turns out that's the only weekend available to us, but really don't want to travel all that way to deal w/ 45 minute lift lines when we can get that at home.

Total snowfall season to date

   Jackson  208"

Copper Mt  49"  (I doubt the accuracy of Breckenridge's numbers; Copper's are more accurate, I believe)

Snowfall yesterday and today:

Jackson 8 (plus whatever fell today -- forecast was for 3-6)

   Copper 4

Lift time waits -- does it matter?

The skiing is good in Wyoming, and not so much in Colorado.  I'd be hopping a plane to get up there (or to Big Sky, where there are no crowds on P-day) if I were you.  I'm headed to Kicking Horse myself.  Right after coming back from India...

I don't think I've ever waited 45 minutes for a lift in 23 seasons at JHMR.

Keep in mind that Presidents Day and Alberta Family Day are on the same weekend and Kicking Horse gets a lot of its skiers from Calgary Alberta so KH will likely have a busy weekend.

The best places to avoid crowds in Western Canada on Presidents Day weekend are resorts that are not near Calgary and not Whistler.

I've been to JH twice, so far, on Presidents Day, both times it seemed less crowded then Whistler or Breck on "normal" days. 10 minute lift lines at most. Good powder days in the middle of the week are worse, in my experience.
