Beer League- Ski Roundtop/Liberty/Whitetail

Does anyone know if any of these mountains have a beer league this year? I know Blue Mtn, Sno Mtn, Big Boulder and camelback all had leagues last year. Was just hoping to find something closer if possible.

Thanks!

Hi Bob:

Among the three mentioned resorts, ONLY Roundtop has a "beer league" racing on Friday evening.  They also offer Nastar on the weekends.  The "racing" tradition at Roundtop is well established and well run.  Lots of good racers for being a "Southern" resort.

See following website for more info on the Beer League as well as Nastar at Roundtop.:

Good luck on your racing,

ps: I know that Liberty doesn't even offer Nastar.  Not sure about whether Whitetail offers Nastar or not.  I think it doesn't anymore. As an additional benefit, you might even get to meet and go head to head with Diann Roffe 1994 Olympic SG Gold Medal winner.  The pacesetters take great delight when they have a lower time than she achieves.

A guy in our ski club, Fagowees, races at Roundtop and really rips it.

He has beaten the Nastar pacesetter there a few times !

btw Liberty/Roundtop/Whitetail all have most all their runs open now.

I'll go to one of them tomorrow -Whitetail probably.

Is Diann still affiliated with Roundtop? I know she took a non-ski industry job after she had the baby.

Hi vsirin:

Far as I know, she does not have any "official" capacity with SnowTime (holding company of Liberty, Roundtop and Whitetail) or with Roundtop any more (I could be mistaken).  For a while, when she first got down to this neck of the woods, she was involved in some capacity (which I also don't know the exact position) with the Roundtop race program as well as some sort of roving ambassador and motivation person with SnowTime.  However, every now and then, I'll see her on the slopes at Roundtop.  Funny thing, last year while at Keystone, I skied with a couple and the conversation got around to Roundtop.  They asked me if I knew of Diann.  I replied to the affirmative.  It seems that their boy grew up and raced on the same team as Diann and they knew her quite intimately.  He was not Diann's previous husband, though they knew him as well, also a racer on their team.  Small world.

Yes she had at least a couple of years when she was there full time. She had the "Roffe Training Academy" at Roundtop. With taking off a half day of work every week and driving 2.5 hours each way, I was fortunate enough to have weekly private lessons with her for two years as well as doing a couple of multi-week evening clinics and some weekend clinics. She is a great teacher as well as being a super skier. I found the progress I made with her help to be just remarkable. Plus she is a very, very nice woman.

Hi visirn:

I'll second that on (a) she's a great skier (b) great teacher (c) but most importantly a great, fun and enthusiastic person.  I also was fortunate to have a few privates with her as well as race training.  Hope all is going well with her.

Went to Liberty yesterday.  Actually was good with no ice (ie PA powder). First day of season so

it was OK for practice.  Sprinkled a bit of rain for 5 min only then 10 degrees lower high than expected.

This was good. Higher temps in 50s would make a soggy mess.

All runs open except White Lightning and one lower run on back. Good snow coverage.

Ignored total boredom since my first ski day was here in 1970 when it was called Charnita.
