Living Tahoe and flying east to ski - Does it make sense? - Page 3

Once I just saw this...

It had to happen eventually. Betsy Pratt has stepped down from her role as presiding queen and orator of the Mad River Barn and sold the place.

"Hello Mad River Barn fans! I have some exciting news to share with you! After MANY years of excellent stewardship, the amazing Betsy Pratt has passed the baton to new owners of the barn. Andrew & Heather Lynds took the helm on December 31st. We hail from Michigan and Kansas originally, though we've lived on both coasts, out of the country, back in the country, and across the midwest a few times. We're thrilled to be part of the Barn community and wanted to make sure everyone knows we recognize what a special place this is. Our key goal is to protect it, so that it remains in good health into the future. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to meeting all of you!"

The only thing I would change would be a remodel of certain customer room.

I have one LESS reason to go back to MRG. The Barn was one of those special places.

Nice buried lead title to this thread!

MRG is also on my list to hit.

Years ago I started to tick off all the remaining resorts that ban snowboarding and have only managed to ski Alta and Taos (I hit Taos on the last day they banned snowboarding as well as the first day they allowed it).

Travelling to a resort away from where you live isn't crazy. I mean you go to Utah and Colorado, right?

What's crazy is when you live somewhere and then exclusively only travel to somewhere else to participate in an activity that you can potentially enjoy better at home.

If you were travelling every weekend back East to ski whilst living in Tahoe that would be crazy (I rode the gondola with a gentleman the other day who flies out every weekend from Chicago to ski Tahoe. At that point in my life I'd just move).

Maybe tie it in with some other New England type stuff? Call it a vacation not a ski vacation. Go to Boston or New York, eat some east coast italian, pizza, haddock, lobster..get drunk, go to cabot cheese ect...the list goes on. New England is a great place as you know. There's a reason I go back there for the warm months (besides the $$$).

If you want to know what it's been like this season, here's a little video a shot with my gopro at sugarbush resort, Vt.

MRG was in decent shape on Wed., the cover was good, but I have certainly skied under better conditions there.  There was fresh powder to be found in the trees.  The bumps on the main trails were packed powder (not ice) with a crown of loose snow on top.

It was well worth the 2.5 hr (each way) trip from Albany.

If I weren't going to be at Mammoth, I'd seriously consider chasing that East Coast Storm.

Hope you easterners go get some and post lots of pics!

You'll have way more fun at Mammoth! MRG is a great place to ski if you are in the area but I wouldn't travel across the country to check it off you bucket list. So many other great places out west closer to you that I would check off first.
