Any kind of cheap lodging in Kirkwood?

Heya, this is going to be my first time going to Kirkwood. I was really counting on being able to do Rockstar Hostel but they seems to have closed (I'm not sure why). Now I'm not sure what to do. I want to spend a straight month or so up in Tahoe, but I'm currently completely homeless. I've skiied Heavenly and Northstar to death, so I wanted to check out Kirkwood, but the prices....

I only have a two wheel drive car and Kirkwood seems so isolated. Great way to trap its customers and force them to pay exorbitant lodging prices, which I can't afford :(

I day trip from Heavenly and use the shuttle, but I ended up at Squaw in a 2 bedroom slopeside (1 is a den with a murphy bed) for $1100 p/week, the other is 1 bedroom and was a tad less, thanks to facebook alerts.

Hmmmm... I was really hoping for a rate more like a hostel at $25 a day of maybe even a rental for one month at $800 a month or something. Anything of the sort? Besides Craigslist I'm not sure what else to use.
