I'm planning a trip to SkiSugar, if the clouds and weather cooperate, in early March, a road trip if you will with my wife and sheltie.

Some skiing and snowshoeing at Sugar and a trip to do some  backcountry skiing or hiking, again weather permitting, and both will be a first time experiences for us.

I think I read somewhere on the forum that one or two of you Bears are from the area or know this area well enough for some restuarant recommendations in Banner Elk and Ashville around Mt. Mitchell and where some backcountry hike in and ski out areas are, again if there is enough natural around.

Seems I have this need to see this area in late winter, not to mention I've never done the BlueRidge Hwy south of the Mason Dixon.

So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

As is the case with any road trip, the weather will call the shots, go or no go.
