Stockli Stormrider 95 question

Thread Starter

Hi,

I really want to try them in 174 (I'm 5'9" and 165lbs).

Most info/reviews are about 183.

How do they ski, say comparing to Elan Apex 177 or old Volkl Explosiv 170?

Thank you.

At 5' 9" and 165# you should want to be on the 183.  The 174 is way too short for you on a heavily rockered tip ski like the 95.

For last few years I was using all mountain skis in 170 - they always felt a bit too short.

This year I have Elan Apex in 177 which I really like a lot - problem is, when I get into tight spots or icy moguls I wish I had shorter skis (something in 170).

Maybe I just need to take few lessons instead looking for perfect skis?

You have to take into account the much shorter contact length of any ski with significant rocker.

Of course I'm a quiver guy, so I wouldn't be looking at the 95 as my ski of choice if I knew that I would be ending up in icy moguls. wink.gif

I recently bought the 183's, after liking them very much in a demo further back. They do fine in big soft bumps, cannot speak for icy kind. I'm 6', 165. They ski short, believe it or not, actually have front and rear early rise; as Real Skiers said, built like a fullback, move like a halfback. Stronger feeling than an Apex, heavier, about as maneuverable.
