I need help understanding SKI specs.

Thread Starter

Hello,

My uncle had a pair of Varela skis made specifically for himself and he never uses them so he offered them to me for free. I really want to use them but i dont know if they will work for me. My uncle weighs 188lbs and is 5'10". I weigh 210lbs and i am 6'3" tall.

So based on this is it likely i will be able to use these skis?

Welcome to EpicSki!  Take a look at the general info about buying skis.  When you answer the questions, more likely to get helpful advice.

Welcome to EpicSki. Your question isn't complcated enough to warrant learning your life history. If these skis were truly made specifically for your uncle chances are they may not work for you, BUT, the only way to really know is to try them. Looking at the specs for a ski is useful for narrowing down the seemingly endless list of skis, but specs cannot tell you what will actually work well for you.

All skis work. Some work differently than others for different people.

We're these skis made for your uncle or for your uncle's size? I'm guessing the latter and all that means is they will be a little short for you and probably easy to use and fun.

I have skis that range from 160cm to 176 cm. Soft to race stock stiff. Some carve better, some are better in the moguls and some only want to be in a race course.

I've seen people bigger than me on the same skis as I have and they seem to be enjoying themselve.

I've never heard of Varela skis, and an internet search turns up nothing.

My guess is that these are some kind of old home-made skis and are probably obsolete.  That said, it won't hurt to try them and see if you like them.  Be sure to take them to a tech center and have the bindings adjusted and tested.
