One of the best family activities in Northern UT in winter time is the elk viewing and sleigh rides at Hardware Ranch near Hyrum, UT. Run by the UT Division of Wildlife Resources - Hardware Ranch is located about 2.5 hours north of SLC by car. My family has made this annual part of your Xmas/new years celebrations.
This season we have had two new additions to the Family and it was a cold 15F but we didn't let that stop us from an awesome half day family excursion.
Tim (And Toby in the baby bjorn under his jacket) and Genevieve wait in Line for the Sliegh Ride.
Madeline (and Harper in the ergo carrier) stoked to be out on a beautiful winter day.
Genevieve is ready to go for a ride.
Here comes the sleigh.
About 550 head of Elk were feeding at Hardware Ranch that day.
This is a 1 year old male, a "spike".
Here is a larger junveile male elk.
Genevive tries extra hard not to drop her binkie over the side. There is no stopping and no getting off this sled, until we reach the end.
Madeline and Harper are enjoying the ride.
Hardware Ranch also provides a major BC trail head for snow machine access to the Wasatch Cache NF and hundreds of miles of groomed trails for winter riding.
