considering the above ski but not sure what size - 172 or 179... me - 6'-2", 195 - 200 lbs, intermediate to int-adv skier, ski Tahoe, mostly groomers... looking for a ski that performs well on the groomed, but can handle the sluff piles and crud without getting kicked around... what size say you... thanks in advance...

I owned a pair of the same ski last year. I'm 6'1, 213, and I went with the 179. Not sorry that I did. Remember, that ski has a bit of tip rocker, so the effective contact point is somewhere in between the ski tip and the toe of the binding, thus making it a touch shorter than the advertised length. And skiing where you do, you are probably going to appreciate the little extra length.

Been reading through some posts and the K2 Rictor sounds interesting... I have lower back problems and sciatica that results in easy fatigue in my left leg... a ski that requires less work would be preferred... Dawg, SJ, Phil, or anyone else know if the Rictor would be a better option here... thanks.

If you want to consider K2 in the mix, the better choice would be an Aftershock. It is a wider version of the Rictor. The extra width will give you more ski to handle that sluff that you alluded to, but it will still carve very smoothly on hard pack.

Mag 8.1 or Aftershock? Rebound or dampness, respectfully. Take your pick

As Denny suggested, either of the K2 offerings will be an easier going ski. The Magnum 8.1 is a pretty precise tool and great at what it does, but it is best suited for someone that's able to be "on" the ski all the time.

Thanks for the feedback guys... the K2's sound like the better choice for me... I'm currently on Dynastar SC09 skis, how would the Dynastar Outland 80 or 87 compare to the Rictor or Aftershock?

So,I've been doing some reading in the forums (can be information overload)... found some good prices on the 2011 Dynastar Sultan 85 and 2012 Dynastar Outland 80 XT both in 178... anyone know what the better choice would be based on the info I provided above... thanks for all the help.
