Amazing achievement and she's number one in the slalom standings now.  I love the look on her face when she sees that she's first. The shock is fun to see.

Pretty incredible stuff.  I used to race with her mom, so it's obvious that the gene pool...and hard work...is paying off.  The snow was ideal, the course set was a good one...not the usual cranky nonsense you see out of somebody like Ante Kostelic...and the quality of the field and the performance level was astounding.  If you're a ski racer and you want to get better in tec events, forget the men...go get a UniSports copy of the whole Are WSL, and watch it... over and over again...

Nice to see Resi back in action as well.  I have been lovin these last few races.  Ted, Julia, Mikaela, Lindsey, Stacy, Leanne & Steve Nyman...  It can only get better if Bode gets back for the classic DH's after Christmas!  Nice to see USA on top.

Great stuff.

I think Diann Roffe was also 17 when she won the World Championship in Bormio, Italy in 1985.  That may have been her first of a few World Cup wins.  But she has an Olympic Silver and Gold in her closet.

Amen, brother. We've had a ton of great performances lately, but I'm especially happy for Steve and Resi after all the injuries they've suffered. And, yeah, I am really hoping to see Bode come back, win the Lauberhorn again, and finally win the Hahnenkamm....

European-based FIS might not be happy with another American to become a WC star but Shiffy is a blessing. Not another simple mountain girl raised to repeat the master´s voice. To watch her body language in the finish area is a unique experience.

Otoh, you nasty Americans should not do it to us traditionalists. First you sent the blond beast Lindsey to conquer our innocent hearts and then, not giving us the time to recover, you finished your dirty deal with the Shiffgy girl. Where are the snows of yesteryear and the stars of our countries? You wonna make us love and admire another of your winners?

We hate you. We have our stars and don´t need yours. Not your imports. The series of Picabos, Kildows and Shiffrins is enough. Don´t touch our circles.

It´s too late. I´m afraid the damage´s done. She´s on the scene and her fans are there not to disappear. Shiffy, you´re an angel and some love you. Be hard enough to accept this. You´re a part of the game now and there´s no mercy you get. Forget your life, you´re a celebrity now. Your old teddybear has to wait at home till you come back in March. Nothig will be as it used to.

Some of us love you even here in Europe. Alpine racing needs people like you.

The course was set by the ex-Czechoslovakian coach Zuzula, the father of the Zuzu racer lady (married now).

My comment in our ski forum was about:

all the girls should have immediately bought him some Xmas gift (and the FIS should have added some dough as well) for the set that made real skiing and charging not only possible but a must.

I don´t remember having seen so many happy faces and smiles in the finish because most of them enjoyed their skiing and could show that they really CAN SKI. Which is what a good race should be about. I understand that not all courses can be that „easy“ (they can´t because of snow, pitch, weather, visibility) and sometimes more challenge is appropriate on WC level but this time, with the pre-Xmas atmosphere at that, it was absolutely perfect.

I'm watching the Aspen race now. What a smooth skier. To be performing at that level at 17 is impressive. She seems to ski smart as well. She has a great career ahead of her.
