Converting back from snowboarding, need a new all mountain ski. Local ski shop has limited options...

Thread Starter

I snowboarded the past two years and I'm ready to come back to skiing.  I used to skii on Solomon Ten-Eightys and loved em.

I just bought a pair of Lange RX130s.  I'm 5'6 in height and in really good shape.  I'm looking for an expert level ski for east coast ice conditions.

I like taking fast turns and a ski that is poppy (almost hopping up on every turn).  I like taking jumps alot but I don't do many 180s so I'm not sure if I'll be skiing backwards.  However, I do want a ski that lands soft from big air.  I am thinking I should be under 92 underfoot because I'm skiing mostly groomers, ice and moguls.

I went to my local shop today and they had the following which sort of interested me:

Kastle BMX 88, 168  [they did not have a MX88 which is what I think I'd need right? ]

Volkl Kendo 170

Line Prophet 85

Solomon Rocker 90

They were out of the Blizzard Bushwacker and most Nordica stuff (probably all picked through).

I'm not sure I should support my local shop with one of these skiis or if I should go online and get a last year's model really cheap and just buy the bindings from my local shop and have them install them.  There appears to be some really good deals online from last year skiis such as I can get a Solomon twenty twelve in a 163length for under 400 bucks from evo.

I am assuming being 5'6 I should be in a ski from 165-170 length?  Right?

THe Clymb has the MX88 in 158 and 168 sizes for $599.98

^ and if you don't weight enough for a MX88, fleabay has a new in wrapper LX92 for $350! (plug the numbers on Kastle's website for length recommendations).

Are you female?  You didn't put your weight, which is what really matters.
