Strange visual effect on webcams

Viewing the slopes at Hunter from the Summit Webcam, the few patches of snow look white, but the grass on Broadway, Gun Hill, Eisenhower, Lower Crossover, and other runs looks brown.

Viewed from the the lower level Webcams, the few patches of snow also look white, but the grass looks green.

I'm wondering if this is an effect of the angle of the sunlight. It's very important to me, since I need to know if my season pass is useless because the slopes are covered in green grass, or brown grass. There's a difference.

hope it snows there soon LOL

I was there last Friday.  Didn't really pay attention to the color of the grass on the other trails, but the ones with snow making had none coming through (thankfully).

Still too early to write off the season pass, but I would never consider buying one there.  Too many other places to ski in the tri state area to be tied to Hunter.  I will get a Big Lift card which will get me discounts for the times I do go,

perhaps different white balance on the cameras

If the grass were green, that means it's still growing, which is a very big problem in itself at this time of year, but it would mean the temperatures are very mild and grass hasn't gone dormant.  I would seriously question green grass now anywhere on the East Coast at all.

If the grass were brown, that means it has indeed gone dormant, in which case the air (and ground, to an extent) temperatures are cold enough consistently for longer periods of time......which means it's more "winter" in that location.  Brown grass is normal this time of year on the East Coast.

My bet is it's brown.

Either way, it doesn't matter because if you actually see grass then that means there's no snowpack........which means.......*drumroll*.........no skiing.  wink.gif

The funny thing is, it's the same grass that I'm looking at, from two different directions.

From the webcan below it looks green; from the webcam above it looks brown.

At least the snow isn't yellow, 'don't ski yellow snow'.
