Extreme foot pain... first day

Hi... Just had my first ski day this year a couple days ago. My boots really hurt and my feet felt a little bit better after loosening them (the boots felt too loose though). The pain was mostly on the outer sides of both feet.

What could it have been? I have custom foot beds and had the boots custom fit and adjusted 3 times in total. Last year, they felt great after the last adjustment. What do you guys think was the reason?

Thanks!

correct liner, and footbed on the correct feet?  (no, really, I see this a lot)

could just be your feet getting used to the boots again, have you stayed fit and flexible, tight calves can cause the foot to try and rotate out the boot causing the pain you are suffering

I got new Orthotics recently, the material is tougher and they have a higher arch than the previous version. Could this be a factor?

Thank you!

yes, it could be a factor.

so could not having your bootboard flattened in the arch and flattened laterally so there is no varus or valgus being added by a stock bootboard.

could also be your new footbed is thicker and or has not been properly interfaced into your liner or shell.

The orthotics were for my regular shoes and I don't use them with my boots. I thought they may have changed the shape of my arch?

ok, since i thought that you changed footbed to orthotic, disregard the footbed interface info.

orthotic will not change your foot dramatically enough to change a good fitting boot into a boot that causes you pain

explain the adjustments you had done to the boots last year that made them feel good.

If I remember correctly, the guy blew a hole on the inside side of each boot at my ankles (made them wider) and changed the alignment. He took the top of the boot off and put it back at a different angle.

OK so he changed cuff alignment.  This could have an effect, but I doubt it would make things as bad as you say.  I agree with Jim that new orthotics would be very unlikely to have changed foot shape.  How many days do you have on them this year?

False alarm. Not sure if first day or had them too tight. Loosened up the bottom two a notch and they're comfy again.

I also found it helps if I have them really loose the first coupe runs. Thanks all for the feedback!
