From Spokane, head an hour east on Interstate 90 right to the base of the Silver Mountain gondola.  Head up the hill and see what awaits on top.  Silver is an older area with an interesting heritage. Originally built as Jackass Ski Bowl in the 60's to entertain the local miners, it's grown to become more of a year-round resort with an excellent base village, condos, and a water park.  Additionally, they've built a golf course called Galena Ridge with more plans to expand activities.  Mining remains an important industry in Kellogg but tourism has really taken hold as many of the mines have closed and the area has recuperated from decades of their industrial past. Silver has been the leading entity toward the development of tourism and offers a lot for outdoor recreation enthusiasts.  Here's the video story that further demonstrates what's available.
