Rio, you're right, the first year I was here I had all my co-workers asking if I was going to have corned beef and cabbage, and all I could think was "You mean people eat that stuff voluntarily???".
I never heard of it as a meal until I came here.
I live and work just outside Philadelphia now, and they have candy called 'Irish Potatoes' for St. Patrick's Day. It's a cream cheese and coconut concoction rolled in a ball and covered in cinnamon. The home made ones aren't bad, but the store bought ones taste pretty weird to me.
My only vice from Ireland is the candy. The fake Cadbury stuff made by Hershey just doesn't compare, so every time someone comes over, they bring (literally) about 50lbs of candy.
Good thing I go to the gym...
