Packing Skis for The Airlines

Thread Starter

I need some suggestions on how to safely pack my skis for when i have to take them to the airport with me so i can fly to my next ski trip

normally i rent skis at the destination

now i bought new ones

and i want to take them with me

So I have  ski bag i can put my skis and poles into

its just a loose bag, no hard shell around it/

What can i pack around my skis so they wont get damaged by the Airlines etc

would a bunch of blankets work?

towels?

suggestions please

I usually pack an extra jacket or clothes in with the skis. If your really concerned you can wrap a towel around the bindings. Flown many times with no problems.

Be sure to put something between the bases of the skis so they don't damage each other.  Put them together with something between them then wrap some clothes or towels around them in the bag.  Be sure to cap the tips and ends well.  Those are the areas most susceptible to damage when dropped.

The best way to search is to use something like "airplane ski: epicski" in Google instead of the EpicSki Search.

On the way out, extra base layers, other non-essential, inexpensive clothes you may wear on trip. On way home, dirty inexpensive clothes.
