So, I need help and I figured soliciting help from y'all would be a good place to get it. Here's the deal: I am looking for a ski between 85-100 mm or so that has three main characteristics: very stable at speed, great edge grip, and playful or at least very manageable in tight spots. Here's my conundrum:
I have volkl rtm 84, 181 that have tenacious edge grip, almost to a fault. I LOVE the grip, but when you get in tight spots or in deeper stuff (even 6 inches), they are difficult to manuever. Awesome on deer valley groomers and crappy in bumps and tights. I also own Bonafides 187 and LOVE the stability, but lack a bit in edge grip compared to the volkls, even when freshly tuned and are also a little difficult in tight spots. These simply need space to run. I have tried the 180 bonafides, basically new, hoping for more playful, but I felt that I then gave up edge hold and stability.
So I don't know what to do. I worry I'm asking for a ski to do well things at opposite ends of a spectrum, and I am looking in vain. Because I am 6'1', 220 lbs, it doesn't help either because I need a longer, more damp ski for stability, but then I lose quickness in tight spots. ugh.... If I could give the Bonafide a little tighter radius and a bit more edge grip, I feel like I'd be superthrilled... cause I like the width.
So, are there any thoughts about my concerns? Again, I know I can find great edge grip alone, I can find superstable skis alone, and I can find very quick skis for trees. BUT, in the 85-100 width, can I find all three??
Mantra? Line influence 105? Kastle MX88? Prophet 98? Dynastar outland 87? cham 97?
I'm in Utah and ski from Alta powder to Deer valley groomers. (I have powder gear). Don't worry about price if you have expensive advise... Even if its expensive I'll sell stuff to try it! lol.
