Telluride Colorado December 8-15th

Hi all. My dad has a timeshare week in Vail over Christmas and because it is in such high demand if he trades it in he can go two weeks elsewhere for example one week in the Bahamas and one week in Orlando. He can only pick from places that are available. This year he got lucky and Telluride was available! Both of us our first time here.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and mostly just relaxed. Around 4 we headed out to check out the town. Had a very nice dinner at Cosmopolitan. It was the last night they were having $20 entrees and $30 bottles of wine. It was really good. Enjoyed a beer afterwards at the river club where we were staying. I had put a case of beer in my checked luggage hehe.

Sunday we skied. There were only three and a half runs open. One of the runs was for beginners which we skipped all together and the half run was a terrain park which was fun to mix things up a bit. The two main runs were a green and a blue. The blue was kind of fun but got boring after a wile doing the same run over and over. However we were just glad we got to ski we know we were taking a chance as it was early season but we did not get to pick the dates so we were stuck with what we got. Had dinner at the Brown Dog Pizza which was some of the best pizza I have ever had. They have won awards all over the us for their pizza and it shows. It was amazing.

Monday we drove to Mesa Verde and the four corners. It was really interesting to see how the cliff dwelling people lived long ago. It was really worth the drove. Four corners however was just so so. Had a nice late lunch on the way back at a local diner and then just relaxed and had a few beers. Had a great dinner at Allreds. They had an early season 3 course dinner for $40. The food was excellent and the view was incredible. Take the free gondola half way up to get there. You won't regret it.

Tuesday we made a shopping day and also a day to watch the telluride world cup skiers. They were practicing on the course and it was cool to watch them ski. Bought a bunch of souvenirs and some new ski hiking boots. Afterwards we want back and relaxed and had a few beers. Then we want to the Italian bistro for dinner. It was really good.

Today we skied again. My dad demoed skis I used my blizzard bushwackers. Skiing was fun to say we skied but again only one run that was really decent. It was really cool getting to watch the world cup qualifiers as we were skiing. You could really tell the good skiers from the not quite as good skiers from how good a start they got on the course. We are getting ready to head to the chophouse now. We were told by the locals that if we sit at the bar area we can get a steak and a glass of wine for $22. Not a bad deal considering this town is pretty pricey.

Tomorrow we plan on just relaxing and taking it easy maybe doing some more shopping. We also plan on watching some of the world cup semi final races tomorrow. But Friday we plan on checking out the ski resort in Durango to see if the skiing is any better and then Saturday we leave.

All in all a good trip I just wish there would have been more snow. Telluride put 99% of their resources into the world cup so no additional runs will be open wile we are here. Telluride is a great ski town and I am so glad I got to experience it!

I think your caloric intake is going to greatly exceed the calories you burn off skiing this week Kyle.  Thanks for sharing your report.icon14.gif

Any scenic photos to share?

Telluride is an absolutely amazing mountain to ski when they have snow in addition to being scenic as hellicon14.gif  Definitely worth a return trip with good snow...

It is very scenic and I really like that. The locals are very nice and friendly. I don't want to leave but work calls next week. O well. I will probably shoot for a return trip next year not this year again as It's pretty expensive.

Joel Gratz is forecasting a bit of new snow for you tonight and tomorrow.  Hopefully it comes through!
